New Primary School titled FACE opens its doors
The FACE school, located on Christophe-Colomb Avenue in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, has undergone a significant transformation. What was initially intended to be a temporary move to a new primary school has become a permanent change.
The newly renovated primary school boasts modernized classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and music rooms in the basement. However, some teachers express a sense of nostalgia for the larger spaces they had in the original building, which includes a large auditorium, a cafeteria, and a library that the primary school students can no longer benefit from.
The search results do not provide information on which organization is responsible for building the new FACE-Gymnasium. Meanwhile, the cost of renovating the building on Saint-Urbain Street, expected to welcome secondary school students from FACE within "four or five years," remains unknown but is expected to be high.
Renovating the building quickly is considered urgent to avoid service disruptions for FACE's secondary school students in the coming years. The CSSDM is eagerly awaiting sufficient funding from Quebec to make this happen.
The cost of keeping the main secure building of the old FACE school viable until all its students can be moved is estimated to be between 4 and 6 million dollars a year. This cost, along with the high expected cost of renovating the Saint-Urbain Street building, has led to the abandonment of the renovation project of the original FACE school by Quebec last April for financial reasons.
The start of the school year in the new primary school was marked by a "variable geometry" sentiment among teachers. The PLQ believes that unless there is a "180-degree turn," problems will persist in education.
Sadly, Isabelle Vaillancourt, the general director of Publications BLD, has passed away. Her leadership and dedication to the FACE school will be greatly missed.
Despite the challenges, there are some positives to take away. The new primary school has a playground three times larger than the previous one, providing more space for outdoor activities. And for those teachers who are delighted with the new facilities, the brand new classrooms and equipment offer a fresh start for the school year.
