KSA Fines Influencers €75,000 Each for Promoting Unlicensed Gambling
The Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, KSA) has taken stern action against three influencers for promoting unlicensed gambling sites. Stiefunspeelt, Turcos, and Buurtwachtt have been fined for violating Dutch gambling laws, following repeated warnings. The KSA, responsible for regulating gambling in the Netherlands, has stepped up its efforts to protect underage and vulnerable groups from exposure to gambling promotions on social media. Influencers are seen as a powerful marketing channel, particularly appealing to young audiences. The authority has therefore prioritized strict enforcement of gambling regulations. The influencers were found to have encouraged their followers to gamble on offshore, unlicensed platforms, violating Dutch gambling law. They had received previous warnings but continued to upload such content, leading to the decision to impose penalties. Under the KSA's order, existing videos must be deleted within 48 hours, and any future promotions for illegal operators could result in further fines. Each influencer faces a fine of up to €75,000, with individual violations carrying a penalty of €25,000. All gambling ads must be removed from their platforms within 48 hours to avoid additional penalties. The KSA's crackdown sends a clear message about the importance of responsible gambling and the consequences of violating gambling laws.
