Fire Erupts at LPI-G Construction Site

On August 31, 2025, a fire broke out at a concrete plant in Schmölln, Thuringia, Germany. The fire was reported to the police of Altenburger Land at 15:43 hours and quickly escalated, requiring the involvement of multiple emergency services.

The fire-fighting operations continued into the night hours, with reserve police being called in to relieve the on-site forces. The fire was finally extinguished at 02:00 hours on August 31, 2025.

During the fire-fighting operations, Crimmitschauer Straße was fully closed. Traffic was diverted via the Lohsenstraße. The street was reopened at 02:40 hours on August 31, 2025.

Two children, aged 9 and 10, with soot-stained faces and breathing difficulties were found near the scene. The children were initially taken to the hospital for examination.

The criminal police have linked the two children directly to the outbreak of the fire, but the exact circumstances are still being investigated. The investigators from the Kriminalpolizei Gera, along with several patrol units from Altenburg, were deployed to the scene at Crimmitschauer Straße on August 31, 2025.

The fire site was examined by fire cause investigators on Monday morning. The Thuringian Police are currently investigating the fire and are available for further questions regarding the incident.
